    Revival in the Jungle

How Revival Was Worth Every Mile

“Heavenly Father, we come before you right now, and we declare revival over Malaysia. Lord, let the revival we see here in this village spread all across Malaysia. Would you move, Lord? Move your hand of blessing. Move your hand of favor. Would you unite your churches? Gather them, unite them, and send them forth. We speak revival over Malaysia right now in Jesus' mighty name. Amen.”

My name is Aaron Tan. I'm a pastor in Malaysia. Right now, we are deep in the jungles of Borneo, in a Penan village. It took us ten hours to get here, traveling through treacherous, muddy roads and heavy rain. But we have arrived.

The Penans are a tribe in Sarawak, one of the most remote people groups in the world. From a spiritual perspective, the Penans are one of the most unreached people groups. They practice animism, with strong ties to pagan religion and witch doctors. Witchcraft and black magic are common, leading to lives full of fear and hopelessness.

Despite all the obstacles and challenges reaching these remote villages, God’s work is undeniable. Malaysia has a rich history of revival. Over fifty years ago, God moved powerfully in Borneo, one of the most isolated villages in Malaysia. That revival spread to other villages like Bakalan, and then across East Malaysia, resulting in the birth of churches all over.

The same God that was moving powerfully back then is still moving right now. We are witnessing a revival right now in this Penan village. What started off as a prayer meeting continued on for hours and then days. People came repenting, crying out, longing for God. There were no outside interventions, no missionaries–it was a move of the Holy Spirit. The revival has now spread to three different Penan villages, and over a thousand people have come to know Christ.

Lives are being transformed. People are experiencing the love and the peace of God. People who practiced black magic have surrendered their charms because they found that the power of God is greater. Land and family disputes have been reconciled through the Holy Spirit. Drunkards are coming to know the Lord, worshiping and praying to God in churches and prayer meetings. We are seeing this firsthand in this village.

Our hope is that revival will transform a generation of Penans, spreading the gospel to the ends of the earth. A The God that is working in this village is the same God that is working in the countries of Malaysia, in Australia, in America, in Rwanda, in Singapore. If He can reach people in the jungles of Borneo, He can reach people anywhere.
